Research Interests

Our research group focuses on understanding how information is stored, retrieved, and modified in the brain to support long-term memory and goal-directed navigation, using rodents as experimental models. Rather than seeing brain regions as having isolated functions, our approach is guided by the view that brain regions are interconnected, and that the contribution of any region to cognitive processes depends on the functional state of other regions and of the whole network.

To study brain function at the network level, we combine methods such as activity-dependent transgenic tagging, chemogenetics, and brain imaging to map and manipulate distributed neuronal ensembles across different phases of learning and memory.

A central goal of our research is to connect complex patterns of neuronal activity with behavior. We use behavioral paradigms that challenge animals to acquire and update different types of information, and employ diverse computational approaches to link behavioral outcomes with brain activity.
