Research Interests

Our translational research at the interface of psychology and the neurosciences is dedicated to unraveling psychological and neurobiological mechanisms underlying gut-brain communication. We are particularly interested in the intricate relationship between interoception and pain along the gut-brain axis and emphasize investigating the impact of emotions, cognitions and physiological states in healthy individuals, at-risk groups, and those suffering from chronic pain and other fear- and stress-associated disorders. Our translational research expertise primarily comprises experimental approaches in biopsychology and neuroscience, with close ties to clinical contexts and transfers into clinical application. We pursue these using a variety of methodologies centered around human brain imaging and encompassing state-of-the-art methods in pain, learning and memory, and stress research.

We warmly invite students looking for supervision to join our innovative research environment, where they can contribute to and learn from cutting-edge studies on interoception, pain, and the gut-brain axis.
