IGSN/SFB 1280 Conference 2024

Extinction Learning

The international IGSN conference took place on April 23–24, 2024, in partnership with SFB 1280 “Extinction Learning” (Speaker: Prof. Onur Güntürkün).

SFB 1280, which includes members from Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen, has two educational partners: IGSN and the Graduate School of Biomedical Science (BIOME) at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

We were pleased to welcome doctoral researchers from BIOME, who, alongside doctoral researchers from the IGSN, acted as hosts and presented their posters during the poster sessions as well as their ideas in the brainstorming sessions. Ten doctoral researchers from IGSN and BIOME introduced the scientific fields of the conference sessions through short presentations and assisted guests throughout the event—demonstrating the lively collaboration within UA Ruhr!

We were also visited by doctoral researchers from SFB 1315 at Humboldt University and Charité, Berlin, along with their speaker, Matthew Larkum. Following the Berlin-Bochum Memory Symposium on April 22, they took the opportunity to exchange ideas with other doctoral researchers. Matthew Larkum also delivered the opening talk on Tuesday.

In total, IGSN hosted 11 international scientists at this event. Networking was a key focus of the “Brainstorming Sessions”, which provided doctoral researchers the chance to connect and exchange ideas with our guests.

More than 140 attendees participated, making these two days a truly memorable experience.

Our thanks go to the Early Career Researchers from SFB 1280 and the doctoral researchers from IGSN who organized and hosted the event—your efforts and ideas were invaluable!
