Dr. mult. Hanns Hatt

29.04.2026 — In Memoriam Dr. mult. Hanns Hatt

It was with great sorrow that the neuroscience community of Ruhr University Bochum learned of the passing of Dr. mult. Hanns Hatt on April 20, 2026. Professor Hatt became Head of the Department of Cell Physiology at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Ruhr University Bochum in 1992, retiring in 2022.

05.12.2025 — Graduation Day 2025

On December 5, 2025, researchers, staff, and guests gathered for Graduation Day to recognize the latest IGSN graduates as they received their PhDs in Neuroscience. The event included research presentations, poster prizes, and the formal conferral of degrees. The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Denise Manahan-Vaughan, the director of the IGSN.

17.09.2025 — Brain Day 2025

In September 2025, the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN) and the Research Department of Neuroscience (RDN) invited interested visitors to the 14th Brain Day at Ruhr University Bochum. Approximately 450 guests accepted the invitation and enjoyed a diverse program of lectures and interactive activities designed for anyone interested in science.

14.07.2025 — New Brain Cells in Old Age

In an interview with SRF 4 News, Prof. Denise Manahan-Vaughan, Dean of Studies of the International Graduate School of Neuroscience discusses, new findings on neurogenesis. A Swedish study has shown that even in adulthood, the brain can still generate new nerve cells, particularly in the hippocampus, the structure essential for memory formation.
